Rail

The Charlotte Coastal Region is served by the NB Southern Railway (NBSR). The NBSR and the Eastern Main Railway (EMR) form a 189-mile railway system operating the former Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) mainline between Saint John, N.B. and Brownville, Maine. NBSR links the Charlotte Coastal Region at St. Stephen with complete access to North American markets through three connections:

  • Canadian American Railway at Brownville Junction, Maine, providing key connections to Canadian Pacific for access to their full Canadian network, as well as points in the U.S.

  • Springfield Terminal Railway at Mattawamkeag, Maine, providing the most direct access to Boston and the U.S. northeast with access to U.S. points west and south.

  • Canadian National Railway at Saint John, N.B., providing access to the Maritime Provinces and the CN rail system in Canada and the U.S.

The NBSR operates a three-mile spur connecting its system with the Port of Saint John.

NBSR offers reload facilities for companies not served by rail, providing a full transportation package from door to door. As well, the company provides cross-dock service from truck to rail and rail to truck where direct rail access is unavailable.
