Charlotte Coastal Region Economy"I believe that having our international headquarters based in St. Andrews is a definite asset. We do business throughout eastern Canada, the U.S. and Europe and our location, amenities, and quality of life help us attract and retain the top professionals in their fields."
Bill Taylor, President and CEO, Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF)
The Charlotte Coastal Region has a diversified economy primarily based on the sea, and secondarily, on forest products. Aquaculture, the traditional fishery, manufacturing (primarily wood-based products) and tourism are key sectors of the region’s economy. The Charlotte Coastal Region has a history of mining activity, and in recent years, has enjoyed a high level of prospecting and claims activity that appears to be foreshadowing a resurgence of the mining sector in the coming years. In addition to the major economic sectors, the region has vital social and service sectors which support the local businesses and the lifestyles of the region’s residents.
The Charlotte Coastal Region economy has long benefited from a focus on export markets, partly because of its strategic location on the eastern U.S. border within a day’s drive of key U.S. markets.
